You Must Do This to Have New Habits in 2017

Happy New Year!

Today, our hearts sing with the promises and hope of a FRESH START.

I just LOVE that energy, don’t you???

I’ve been thinking about you this morning and hoping to share something that would help you get to where you want to go in 2017.

Rituals Vs Habits from Leah Lund on Vimeo.

[Tweet “Success is all about ENERGY, FOCUS and REPETITION.”] This applies to health goals, weight loss goals, financial goals….
It’s every bit as powerful for dreams of love, travel and great adventure.

Your brain can help you stick to these goals, and dreams and really really make them happen.

Here’s a simple little trick to changing a habit:

Don’t try to make a new habit.
Start with a ritual and practice it INTO being a habit.

Habits are subconscious reactions that happen automatically without us thinking about it. They can also be thrown off really easily when our situation or circumstance changes, like when a new obstacle or stress comes up. That’s why it’s so easy to throw your workout out the window during the holiday season, for example.

Rituals are based on using the pre-frontal cortex of your brain. This is the part of your brain that uses logic, processes situations, solves problems, analyzes and is more conscious and aware. Here’s how to make that work for you:

  1. Decide on a new behavior you’d like to make a habit. (Could be eating breakfast, turning off technology an hour before bedtime, going for a run every day OR practicing detoxing sugar and other great habits with our community in The Sweet & Sour Cleanse Club starting in 2 days!)
  2. Put it on the calendar! Use your phone reminder. Make it a priority like anything else in your life.
  3. Tell someone else what you are going to do so you have an accountability partner.
  4. Do it every day for at least 21 days, i.e. practicing it into habit

Eventually, over time your new behavior will become as automatic as tying your shoes or brushing your teeth. Research shows it takes anywhere from 21-240 days, but KNOW that as long as you continue to do the work (the practice) it will become a habit.

The Ego mind would love for it to happen instantaneously but that is a set up so don’t even expect it. Practice, practice, practice.

Make your rituals as indulgent as they can be. Light a candle during your breakfast. Find a place to put your gadgets to rest. Dress sexy and wild as you go for your run.

This will help you stimulate your pleasure centers and store your ritual in your memory as a pleasant, positive experience.

Give it a try and let me know how you do!!

Be Happy . . . Be Healthy . . . Be Laughter . . . Be Love!
