Do you ever wonder if all the healthy eating and exercise is paying off for your health?
Sure – you can tell some things are working by the changes in your body.
But what about the nutrition? Do you notice certain things or do you just eat on faith and research?
Our Brain Makeover group just completed their Three Week Sugar Detox. That means for three weeks they eliminated a minimum of sugar, white flour starches, caffeine, alcohol and artificial ingredients. Some took their detox a step further and cut out dairy, soy, all gluten and foods they are sensitive too like night shades. Now they are faced with the BIG decision……..
Do I keep eating this way or is my Detox over and I can go back to eating however I want?
When you do a Three Week Detox, there are tons of immediate benefits! (Ok – maybe not immediate as the first 3 days you can feel tired, emotional and just plain cranky!) Within the first week, our participants often report things like:
Decreased cravings for sugar and other non foods
Increased and consistent energy
Weight and fat loss
Increased sense of taste (healthy food starts tasting better)
More regular bowel movements
Increased sense of well-being
Elevated mood/less depression
Old memories / emotions resurfacing
These are some pretty powerful changes!!!
Yes the tricky little mind often creeps in . . . maybe a week after, maybe two . . . or even a month after your Detox is complete and it asks,
“Is it really worth it to keep eating this way?”
There are 2 reasons I encourage you to think of a Sugar Detox simply as a lifestyle choice because these two reasons make EVERY difference when it comes to EVERY illness and disease.
You have somewhere between 65-100 TRILLION cells in your body and EVERY day there is the potential for 10,000 gene alternations that lead to illness and disease (predisposed gene snps and otherwise).
Straight fact – your body needs certain things to protect its cells!
You know I like to keep things simple and I will here . . . it comes down to two main components:
These two components are VERY inter-related.
A chemist would define Oxidative Stress as the process of removing electrons from an atom or molecule. The result of this change can be destructive – rusting iron is a familiar result of oxidation.
In your body, this “rusting” happens with metabolic activity because an imbalance is created between the production of reactive oxygen and the body’s ability to neutralize the reactive oxygen. Our body creates energy by combining food with the oxygen we breathe and this process generates a bi-product called a Free Radical (electronically unstable atom or molecule). These Free Radicals “hit” other molecules, stripping away electrons and causing the cell membrane to break down. The effect is similar to ionizing radiation. BOTTOM LINE: Free Radicals damage and weaken cells and these weakened cells can’t communicate with other cells or transport nutrition. This is when illness, disease and even depression begins.
Before you get too upset . . . please know that Free Radicals CAN be neutralized with antioxidants.
That’s the MOST important reason to eat nutrient dense, whole foods like Feel Good Foods.
Oxidative Stress is caused by many things, some we can control and others we can’t. We can’t stop breathing, moving, exercising or eating! Even environmental toxins can be somewhat out of our control.
However, We CAN reduce the foods and activities that cause Silent Inflammation BECAUSE Inflammatory Chemistry is a MAJOR cause of Oxidative Stress.
Here’s some of the most common causes of Inflammation:
- Drinking alcohol
- Breathing in pollution
- Eating processed foods
- Soft drinks and colas in particular
- Fried foods
- Cheese and other dairy
- Unclean and over cooked animal protein
Inflammation in and of itself isn’t “BAD.” As with all things in your brilliant body there is a purpose. Acute inflammation is the body’s way to remove harmful stimuli, including damaged cells, irritants, or pathogens – and begin the healing process.
The trouble begins when you continually expose your body to inflammation causing foods and substances and inflammation to become CHRONIC!
The list of diseases that can result from chronic inflammation number over 100. They go FAR beyond the things you might think of like Arthritis, Asthma, Allergies and Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn’s or joint pain. Chronic Inflammation contributes to obesity, ADD/ADHD, peripheral neuropathy, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, migraines, thyroid issues, dental issues, cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer’s.
Here are some way you can addressing Oxidative Stress & reduce Inflammation:
- Cold Water Fish
- Omega 3’s (Fish, Cod Liver, Krill or EPO)
- Good Fats: Coconut Oil, Walnut, Flaxseed, EPO
- Olive and Macademia
- Eliminate Allergic Foods
- Old Essene Bread (Sprouted)
- Uninterrupted Sleep
- Cardio & Resistance Exercise Most Days a Week
- Nutrient Dense Foods – Rainbow
- Antioxidant Supplements (Juice Plus)
- Detox the Brain
- Heal Gut
- EDTA Chelation Therapy for Heavy Metals
- Intravenous Vitamins
SO . . . I ask again . . .
Is Eating Healthy Worth It?
Would it be beneficial to “Shift Your Mindset” from a Detox or Cleanse of Inflammatory foods and substances twice a year to . . . just simply EATING THIS WAY ALL THE TIME???[Tweet “You be the judge! YOU HAVE THE CHOICE.”]
PS – If you’ve tried to eliminate these Inflammatory foods only to find you lose your momentum after a few days or weeks, I can help. Let’s chat about a PROVEN year long journey that gets you there ONCE and FOR ALL! You’d start with restoring your Neurotransmitter levels so you eliminate your cravings and emotional eating – REALLY. Help your brain (and me) help you!
I’d love to talk about it, so schedule some time HERE.
