    2. How Journaling Affects Your Health

In this age of technology, things are moving fast-maybe a little too fast for our brains and our health.

“Using the internet pushes us to a skimming and scanning form of thinking.  A lot of our deepest thoughts only emerge when we’re able to pay attention to one thing.”
~ Nicholas Carr, author of “Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains”

“According to a recent study, the distraction of constant e-mails, text messages, voice mails and instant messages are a greater threat to IQ and concentration than is smoking marijuana.”
~ Dr. Daniel Amen, author of “Magnificent Mind at Any Age.”

The prefrontal cortex (the part of the brain that provides supervision, judgment, decision making and impulse control) does not fully develop until the age of 25.  It is now commonly documented that constant email checking, game playing and using multiple tech tools at the same time is preventing young brains from fully developing. Technology isn’t doing older brains any favors either.

Happy beautiful woman working outdoorsJournaling allows you to make your technology work for you instead of against you. When you journal in our on line community, you slow down and pay attention to one thing…your thoughts.  You will step away from email, pop ups, Facebook, the news crawl, the stock market app, the telephone…and give yourself some time. Think of it as a mini-meditation or retreat in which you can clearly:

  • Explore your dreams
  • Account for your daily thoughts and activities
  • Make decisions and solve problems
  • Release excess and negative energy
  • Maintain the focus to achieve any goal
  • Improve your enthusiasm and energy level
  • View your situation objectively

The Journal of the American Medical Association sites findings that journaling and expressive writing can reduce symptoms of asthma, rheumatoid arthritis and other chronic illnesses. Research shows that journaling can also:

  • Improve Immunity
  • Reduce the negative effects of stress
  • Provide clearer thinking through improved cognitive functioning
  • Promote more restful sleep

Joseph Califano, Jr., Founder and Chairman of the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) teaches that, “You the individual can do more for your own health than any doctor, any drug, and any exotic medical device.”
One Whole Health clients have shown us over and over again-the more you are an active participant in your own health, the faster you are healed.  Journaling is a means by which you can participate in your health and your own life.

Journaling Affects Your Performance & Your Peace of Mind

“A great leader is an agent of change who has clarity of vision and knows how to make that vision a reality. Such a person comes from a level of core consciousness, which is what we call the soul.  Great leaders take time every day to reflect.  They ask themselves meaningful questions.  They are conscious of what they are observing. They’re feeling what is needed and know how to fulfill those needs.”
~Deepak Chopra, world-renowned mind-body healing pioneer, author, public speaker and medical doctor

“Journaling is a tool for cultivating your highest self, as applied to any area of your life. It is a way you listen to yourself and make it clear what you actually think and feel.  You re-establish relationship with your true self.  Connecting to your own truth allows you to begin to connect deeply with the truth in others and free yourself from false connection and compulsive behavior.”
~Marianne Williamson, spiritual activist, author, lecturer and founder of The Peace Alliance

A peaceful mind generates power and positive energy.  By journaling, you will quiet your mind and strengthen your leadership thereby clearing a path for your family, friends, employees, colleagues and clients to follow. Journaling develops emotional resilience, the ability to quickly deliver results and the agility to navigate life’s changes.

In any situation, journaling elevates your success…not to mention your happiness.
